After 3 months of hard work we participated in our first FLL Tournament. Thank you to the Northern Idaho Discovery Association for the grant!!! After recruiting 9 great boys, we worked to build, design, and program our robot. We also had to do a research project based on the theme of transportation. We ended up exploring the Boise Streetcar proposal with its pros and cons.
For the last 2 weeks we have been working Tuesday and Thursday after school for a couple of hours and everyday at lunch. On Friday we were at the school until almost 8!! But we got it done!! For the tournament we participated in 4 parts. First we had the "technical." We met with engineers and the boys had to explain their robot design, strategy, and problems that they had and overcame. Then we had our research presentation. The boys put on a nightly news segment with reporters and our trolley driving in back and forth. Next, we had a team building activity. They had to show how well they work together by building a high structure out of speghetti noodles and marshmallows. The last and best event is the robot game. We had 3 opportunities to get points. We had to build, design and program our robot to do different tasks on the game table. We ended up placing 15th out of 47 teams!! Go team!! We came home with participation medals and a real sense of accomplishment. We did it!!
