Oh, the joys of being a Boy Scout...
Last night I sent Eric, Oliver and Henry off on a Boy Scout Campout. Henry was going for the first time and was really excited. They were all packed up and ready to go. About 10:00 the next morning I got a call from Eric that Oliver had been burned pretty good and they were headed to urgent care. He sounded so calm that I was worried, but not too worried.
Eric asked me to call one of the scout leaders and fill them in on the details: Oliver had 2nd degree burns and they were just going to clean it and wrap it all up. I got the full story from the scout leader. One of the boys was holding a bottle of fuel for some pop can stoves they were making. Next to him a boy was lighting his stove and the fumes were enough to blow up the bottle of fuel straight at Oliver. Eric, Bro. Shaffer, and Bro. Bishop got him on the ground and were rolloing him and trying to pat down the fire. It wasn't going out, so Eric yelled "reach for the sky" and they pulled off his shirt and sweatshirt. The fire stopped. They immediately washed it up and wrapped it up and headed to the ER. Bro. Bishop said Oliver was so stoic through it all. "Quite the amazing youngman." He also told me he had said a couple of prayers for him which was so impressive to me because he is not a member of our faith. After hearing all of this I just bawled! How scary!! I am just so thankful that Eric and these good men were there and acted so quickly. My thought and prayers go to the boy holding the fuel. He was really upset. Accidents happen. There are no hard feelings towards him. I hope he will let it go.
Here is a picture of Oliver's singed hair! He came home in good spirits. He didn't seem to mind that I wanted pictures for the blog :) He didn't even mind the song I wanted to play!
