Our Chicks...one week later

One week later...

On Saturday while working in the yard we got a bunch of worms to give to our chicks. They went NUTS!! They were running around, stealing them from each other and in a frenzy. Sooo funny to watch! We laughed and laughed.

Yesterday, we took the chicks outside for the first time. They seemed to really like it. They stuck together and immediately went to the heat lamp when we brought them back in. They still look so small even though they have grown so much!

Here is Elsie with her chick. Her chick has come out as the "Ruler of the Roost." She is boss. She ate almost all of the worms. We stopped counting at 8! She is very alert to noices and easy to catch and hold.

Oliver's little chick is very cautions and reserved. She didn't eat any of the worms. Just watched and pecked at them. Oliver says she is a picky eater. We think she is 2nd in command. He and Elsie's are definitely the fluffiest.

Jack's is pretty mellow. A bit harder to hold, but that is easily understood. When Jack holds her he dive bombs her and flies around. I'm sure her heart is in her throat...

Henry's is the smallest. He loves Henry more than anyone else. She put up a good fight for those worms!!

At night, we all gather around our chicks and watch and laugh. They are so fun to watch. They have been digging in the box. Not sure what they are trying to get at. We put them in a bigger box and know they are harder to catch. They seem to be doing well. In the last week we have watched their wings come in as well as some small tail feathers.
I joke with Eric that he is the "Chicken whisperer." At night he will hold each chick. He can get them to fall asleep in his hand. He has been so sweet with them. I have loved seeing Eric enjoying these chicks and enjoying our wild little adventure with chickens!
